How YTSave works

YTSave is a website in front of yt-dlp. You paste a supported URL, choose a format the source actually offers, and save a temporary file. There is no desktop install and no account. Format and quality availability depend on the source, not on a fixed menu.

  1. Find a supported media URL

Open a public video or audio page on a listed site, or use a direct media file URL. Channel, search, and homepage links are not downloadable media.

  2. Copy the URL

Copy the address from the browser bar or the app’s share sheet. Short links such as youtu.be are fine when they point at a public item.

  3. Paste it into YTSave

Paste the URL into the downloader. YTSave tries to identify the source from the domain and rejects private-network addresses.

  4. Let YTSave process the URL

The server asks yt-dlp for metadata: title, duration, thumbnail when available, and the formats the source currently exposes. Nothing is stored as a file until you pick a format.

  5. Choose an available format or quality

Select a video quality or an audio option. Labels such as 1080p or MP3 only appear when they match a real source format or the documented MP3 conversion. Availability depends on the source.

  6. Download the resulting file

A background worker fetches the file. Your browser saves it from a short-lived link. The server copy is deleted after about 60 minutes.

Troubleshooting

  • If the URL is not on the supported sites list and is not a direct media file, it is rejected.
  • If a private browser window cannot play the media, YTSave cannot fetch it either.
  • Login walls, CAPTCHAs, geo-blocks, and deleted videos produce an error instead of a file.
  • Jobs that exceed the size or time limit stop with a readable message. Try a smaller format.
  • Too many requests from one network are rate-limited. Wait a minute and try again.

What YTSave does not do

  • It does not bypass sign-in walls, CAPTCHAs, or rate limits on the source website.
  • It does not grant permission to download copyrighted material.
  • It does not keep a public archive of videos.
  • It does not promise that every URL on a supported site will succeed.
